Skin tags – those soft, skin-coloured benign growths attached to the skin by a stem – are usually harmless and don’t cause any pain, but they aren’t pretty, and they can be annoying and painful if they snag on clothing.
Skin tags tend to develop in areas where skin rubs together or folds over, like on the eyelids, neck and underarms. If they’re bothering you, they can be removed easily and quickly with laser treatment. They simply shrivel up when they get zapped with a NdYag Laser beam in either a 2.5mm or 5mm spot size, depending on the size of the skin tag.
The laser emits a concentrated beam of light energy that is absorbed by the pigments in the skin tag, causing it to break down and disintegrate. Over the next few days the skin tag will naturally fall off. The surrounding skin isn’t harmed because the laser is calibrated to only target the skin tag.
If you have a skin tag and would like to find out more about laser removal, book a free consultation and I’ll assess you, answer all your questions, carry out a small test patch, and give you a cost estimate.
Warts are a common problem for people of all ages. They are small, grainy, rough lumps that form on the surface of the skin – the hands and feet in particular. They aren’t painful (usually) or dangerous, but they are “catching”. They’re caused by various strains of the human papilloma virus (HPV) which spreads through direct or indirect contact – even from fabrics like towels, or from the floor. The infection is particularly partial to wet or damaged skin.
Warts can take several months to appear after being infected, and they do usually disappear on their own, but this takes a long time, perhaps years.
Many people find warts embarrassing and irritating. But never fear, because they can be effectively removed with a targeted laser beam, ultimately leaving you with new, pink, smooth unblemished skin.
The laser beam creates heat in the blood vessels, and ablates the area of the wart, cutting off the blood supply which starves the wart of nutrients and causes it to naturally fall off within a few days.
If this sounds painful, rest assured that it produces a heat sensation which is brief and is minimised by cold air which is applied during treatment. Laser wart treatment is the least painful way to get rid of warts, and most patients say it is well worth the small amount of discomfort to be relieved of their irritating skin anomalies.
When you book a consultation for wart removal, I will answer all your questions and explain how the process works.
