Laser Hair Removal Treatment isn’t just a vanity treatment; it boosts self-esteem and confidence, while solving problems like a 5 o’clock shadow (anywhere on the face or body), shaving rashes and ingrown hairs. It also relieves you of the hassle of having to “grow out” your hair to have regular time-consuming and costly waxing.
Since becoming the first clinic in Wiltshire to offer laser hair removal treatment in 1999 I’ve been pleased to be able to help thousands of women, some men and many transgender women become virtually hair-free.
I use different types of lasers, including the True Alexandrite Laser which is considered the gold standard for hair removal, and the NDYag Deka Motus AY Laser which is most effective for dark-skinned clients’ facial hair and finer dark body hair.
During treatment multiple short pulses of laser energy are directed into the hair follicles across the treatment area, damaging the base cells that cause hair to grow. The process is not painful – you’ll feel a tingling sensation or warm pinpricks.
The initial consultation for laser hair removal is offered free, and includes a patch test to determine suitability for treatment. At the consultation I will give you an individual assessment of how many treatments you will need, the frequency of treatments required, and the cost per treatment.
If all goes well with the patch test you can have your first full treatment about three to four weeks later.
Actual treatment time can be as little as two minutes for a top lip, for example, or up to four hours for a full body treatment.
Treatment for women is required every four to eight weeks, and for men six to 10 weeks, depending on the area being treated. The number of treatments required varies, but typically six or more treatments are needed for optimum results. Some clients are hair free after five or six sessions, others may take more.
The cost of a treatment course varies according to how long it takes to become hair free, and this in turn depends on a multitude of factors – such as gender and the size and type of area being treated.
I prefer to operate on a “pay-as-you-go” basis for each client, and don’t offer a payment upfront discount for a set course as some practitioners do, because of the unpredictability of each treatment course.
We can discuss payment terms at your initial free consultation when, of course, I’ll be happy to answer any questions you may have.
Laser treatment and electrolysis are both safe, approved methods for permanent hair removal, but while lasers use light energy to damage hair follicles, electrolysis uses electric current to destroy them.
Electrolysis is suitable for all skin tones and hair types and colours, whereas laser hair removal is most effective on people with light skin and dark hair. Often a combination of laser and electrolysis is indicated, depending on the structure and growth pattern of the hair to be removed from a particular area.
Electrolysis has been in use for hair removal since around 1875, and historically the process used to be very painful. Nowadays it is far less so, feeling like a stinging or pricking sensation.
I use the high tech Apilus Electrolysis System to treat clients who request, or are most suited to, electrolysis hair removal. Electrolysis is the best way to get rid of those strong, white hairs that become troublesome as we mature.
An ultra-fine sterile needle is inserted into the base of each hair follicle in a precise process that requires the needle to be inserted to the correct depth, at the same angle as each hair grows.
The electrolysis process is slower than laser treatment, and requires many more treatment sessions to achieve permanent hair removal, so it can cost more.
I will explain the electrolysis process in detail at an initial free consultation, when it can be determined if the treatment is suitable for your individual needs.
